The VTCRC HR Connection Group promotes the education, development and support of human resource professionals in an environment conducive to networking.
Meetings focus on significant and current issues in the human resource field. It is a forum for human resource leaders to share solutions to common challenges and draw from each others examples, experiences, and strengths. Attendees return to their companies armed with new strategies, insight, and perspective to apply to their individual circumstances.
Members benefit from engaging guest speakers and thought provoking round table discussions with their peers. Previous topics include employee retention, SHRM certification, employee performance management, human resources audits, hiring VT students for internships, recruitment, childcare in the NRV, and finding your company's talent. All VTCRC Tenant employees performing human resource functions are encouraged to attend.
Member Testimonials
Current members note that application of HR Connection Group activities and topics have a positive impact on their daily operations and can influence and permanently improve company operations and efficiency.
Henry M. Bass - "The Human Resources group has been a tremendous resource for me at Automation Creations: it provides an opportunity to communicate with our neighbors on HR policy issues and practice, but more importantly, it has been a boon to networking with other businesses in the Corporate Research Center. In the past three years, this has meant hiring opportunities, business collaboration, and new work with our neighbors. I enthusiastically recommend that our own employees and fellow CRC tenants participate in any SIG that relates to their expertise."
Jeremy Marks - "We hired 3 student interns (part-time) from Radford University to help with marketing research, advertising, public relations, and promotions. We are also working directly with Professor Tom Lackowicz (consulting) to help define projects for the students."
Anne Giles Clelland - "As a result of what I learned from the guest speakers on interns for HR Connection from Virginia Tech and Radford University, I had two terrific, successful interns this semester."
Bethanne Trexell - "The HR Connect Group has been very beneficial with regards to Childcare Issues (I have personally found a VT student to provide childcare on holidays and term breaks), HR Compliance (Proper Documentation, Announcement Postings and Filing) and Internship Programs (Key Connections with local colleges and universities, Legal Issues and Setting Expectations). Thank you for all that you do!"
Colin Grant - "The majority of companies at the CRC are small, often in a start-up mode, and perhaps do not have dedicated people addressing HR issues. Librato is such a company. I benefit from the HR individuals from the larger companies that attend the HR SIG meetings with their insights and experience, and also by knowing “what everyone else is doing” so that we don’t miss something important that needs to be accomplished from an HR perspective. The guest speakers provide digested summaries of tools and techniques that can be applied to strengthen our business."
