BioTech Group

Highlight on Local Success

In 2008, the BioTech Group partnered with the Office of Workforce Development at New River Community College to establish criteria for Biotechnology Applications, a laboratory technician course.

Graduates of this educational program will hold a Laboratory Technician Career Studies Certificate and earn qualifications required to serve the local biotechnology industry with a skilled workforce. With a supply of knowledgeable employees, the BioTech employer can remain in the community and boost the economy of the immediate and surrounding counties.

This is a stellar example of the quality contribution and vast impact VTCRC Special Interest Groups can make in our community.
The VTCRC BioTech Group provides professional support from a network of peers, fosters development of technologies, and offers a forum for discussing and examining biotechnology industry concerns. From ecology to nanoparticles to medical research, professionals in this group seek application of knowledge and collaboration opportunities to enhance our community and world while exhibiting the utmost respect and protection of intellectual properties.

Goals of the VTCRC BioTech Group include:

  • Promoting education and awareness regarding the aspects of biotechnology

  • Providing real world consulting, entrepreneurship, and investing experience in the biotechnology industry

  • Developing a science network within the VTCRC community and the New River Valley area

  • Collaborating with industry and community to create stable employers and employment opportunities in biotechnologies
The BioTech Group meets on joint CRC Special Interest Group (SIG) dates and by special session as necessity dictates.
